A young Dutch boy and his loving grandfather find a badly beaten dog and valiantly fight to restore it to health. When the boy's grandfather suddenly dies, so does his dream of becoming a great classical painter. Through this and other challenging encounters, the boy and the dog learn to depend on each other while becoming lifelong companions.
